Artist’s Statement

In 1975, I began making quilts to serve a specific function – keeping people warm. As time went on, I began using quilts as a medium for contemporary self-expression and focused primarily on creating original designs. I discovered the diversity and spontaneity inherent in a smaller format.

My spirit is nourished by nature. In nature, I find the blueprint for endless variations and intricate patterns, as well as a rich palette that inspires dynamic color schemes. The vast expanse of the sky, the detail in a leaf, the architecture of a flower, each is a source that cultivates my imagination and creativity.

Whether in my garden or my studio, nature is my ultimate instructor in color and design and it continually challenges me to observe, rethink, refocus, and stretch myself in new ways.
