Mosaics

Migration

In Barcelona in 2010 I fell in love with the work of Anton Gaudi. Percolating with ideas, I came home and realized a fabric vision of mosaic, creating Fractured Nature. The series was meant to continue, but other work interrupted that intention. So, drawn to mosaic, I decided to explore the actual medium, and began classes at the Main Line Art Center in 2015. Now in my 5th semester, I have navigated to glass… what I consider the “silk “of tesserae. The connection of mosaic and quilts is very compelling- both mediums explore imagery made up of pieces, so the transition was fluid and fulfilling.

I am now focused on working with smalti – mosaic tesserae from richly colored glass. Like silk it satisfies a similar aesthetic reflecting the light in a magical way.
